Masonic Membership Information
One of the most common questions we receive is, "How do I join the Masons?"
There is a long-standing myth that one must be invited to join the fraternity. Such is not the case. Traditionally the potential member must approach the fraternity. Solicitation for members has always been frowned upon by the Masonic order, although some Grand Lodges now permit membership recruiting.
The purpose of this web site and page is to provide a general information source on Freemasonry. Thelodgeroom.com and A Fourth Part of a Circle Magazine are both run by Freemasons but do not speak for any one Masonic body or jurisdiction.
The final authority on all matters Masonic belongs to the Grand Lodge that is in charge of a particular geographical area, such as a state or province.
General Membership Requirements
The Basic Requirements for Membership are as follows:
- A man of 18 or 21 years or older depending on the State in which you live
- A Belief in a Supreme Being
- A Belief in the immortality of the soul
- Must be of good moral character
- Must have a desire to serve your community
How Do I Make The First Move?
Many people considering joining, already know a Mason. If this is the case, simply discuss with him that you are interested in joining. He will be only too happy to get you a petition to join. If on the other hand you do not know a Mason, then it is best to contact the Grand Lodge of your state.
If you have any questions about approaching the Grand Lodge of you area, feel free to email us. We are only too happy to assist you.
